Ray Campi born 1934 in Yonkers, New York, is a distinguished musician often called The King of Rockabilly. Campi's trademark is his white double bass, which he often jumps on top of and "rides" while playing. After his family moved to Austin, Texas in 1944, Campi began a lifetime of performing and recording music in numerous American genres, including folk, country, and rock and roll as well as rockabilly. He rarely concentrated on his musical career exclusively, working a wide variety of jobs, notably twenty-five years spent as a high-school teacher in Glendale, California!!! do yo imagine him as a teacher??... Campi worked with many of the most prominent pioneers of rock and roll music, including Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and Gene Vincent. He has fiercely criticized the mainstream music industry, in particular its connections with drug culture. Ray Campi is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame

21/04/2008 : Les années 1960 1954 le 12 avril Enregistrement de "Rock around the clock" La chanteur Bill Haley, 29 ans, et son groupe les "Comets" enregistrent au Pythian Temple de New-York la chanson qui révélera le rock'n'roll au monde entier. "Rock around the clock", Au début, le rock'n roll prit racine en Angleterre, et les Beatles, qui triomphèrent en 1964, établirent les canons d'une musique qu'on appela désormais rock : guitares électriques se partageant la mélodie et la cadence harmonique, section rythmique constituée d'une basse et d'une batterie, et d'autres instruments qui étaient le plus souvent des claviers. Les Rolling Stones, incarnèrent le rock classique inspiré du blues et du folk. À la fin de la décennie, les paroles simplistes et sentimentales des chansons rock firent place à des textes plus engagés ou méditatifs, sous l'influence notamment de Bob Dylan, héritier du folk américain. Ce fut aussi l'époque de l'explosion psychédélique, dont les grandes figures furent Jimi Hendrix, les Doors, les Who, Pink Floyd ou Jefferson Airplane, tous marqués par le mouvement hippie et les événements émancipateurs des années 1968-1970 aux États-Unis et en Europe.
