16/09/2008 : Guru (rappeur du groupe Gangstarr) a voulu, à travers ses albums Jazzmatazz (3 volumes) rapprocher Hip-Hop et Jazz. Ainsi, il a invité beaucoup d'artistes de Jazz de toute tendance et époque à collaborer avec lui sur des titres. Ici, voici le résultat de sa rencontre avec le grand trompettiste Donald Byrd (titre issu du premier Volume de Jazzmatazz, paru en 1993).

08/06/2008 : Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II (né le 9 Décembre 1932) est un trompettiste américain né à Detroit, Michigan. Il a joué avec Lionel Hampton avant de quitter l'école ; il reçoit plusieurs diplômes de musique, et alors qu'il est encore à l'école de Manhattan, il remplace Clifford Brown auprès de Art Blakey et les Jazz Messengers, puis joue avec de très nombreux jazzmen, dont John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock et Thelonious Monk. Dans les années 1970, il s'éloigne du mouvement hard-bop et se tourne vers le jazz fusion, le jazz-funk, le soul-jazz et le rhythm and blues. Il produit alors Black Byrd, avec les Mizell Brothers ; cet album connaît un grand succès, tout comme les albums qui suivirent avec les Mizell Brothers Places and Spaces, Steppin' Into Tomorrow et Street Lady.

Grant Green est un des plus grands guitaristes de jazz. Il a joué avec Lou Donaldson, Hank Mobley, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, Lee Morgan, Donald Byrd, Art Blakey, etc. En 1969, il crée un groupe influencé par le funk. 09/02/2007 : Fontessa Getz Stan / Donald Byrd 1957 In a studio recording in Germany in 1957 the young tenor saxophonist Stan Getz ( 30) is featured with trumpeter Donald Byrd Stan Getz (1927-1991)was an American jazz musician. He is considered one of the greatest tenor saxophone players of all time. Known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, Getz's prime influence was the wispy, mellow tone of his idol, Lester Young. Trumpet player Donald Byrd (b. 1932) is a bebop player who played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. He also performed with a wide variety of highly regarded jazz musicians, including John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, and Thelonious Monk. In later years he specialized in jazz fusion, funk and soul.
