My DVD at http://dvd.12FREEMUSIC.com - Mon DVD sur http://dvd.PARTITION-GRATUITE.com Please comment on my video. Merci de poster un commentaire sur ma vidéo. Angel Eyes by Matt Dennis played on chromatic harmonica. With the sheet music so you can play along. Angel Eyes is a 1953 popular song composed by Matt Dennis, with lyrics by Earl Brent. It was introduced in the 1953 film, Jennifer. Angel Eyes is in the form AABA. The first and the second A sections are almost identical, with only a few minor variations. The composition has a complex harmonic structure throughout. The II - V - I minor and major progressions are employed frequently throughout the piece. The A sections are in the C minor key. It starts with a C minor, D major 7 and G major 7 progression. Over the D major 7 there is an F# in the melody (the major third to the D major chord). It is a tritone in the context of the c minor tonic. This interval is used throughout the song. Another tritone is the diminished fifth in the Dm7_5 chord but it fits so well into the harmonic context of the c minor key that it is hardly recognized as a dissonant interval. The c minor then shift chromatically to the Bridge which begins with a B flat minor and then leads over an E flat major to the new tonic, A flat major. Because of its colourful harmonic changes "Angel Eyes" is a very popular jazz standard which has inspired many original interpretations. Several performers have recorded different versions of the song, including Don Ellis, Kenny Burrell, Pat Metheny, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington. Nobody in Town - Billie Poole 1960

Nobody in Town can Bake a Sweet Jelly Roll like Mine ? Billie Poole 1960 On June 14 1923 famous singer Eva Taylor recorded this tune and was backed up by her husband pianist, bandleader and arranger Clarence Williams. This was on the Okeh label. On June 22 1923, a week later Bessie Smith recorded it as well accompanied by Fletcher Henderson, pianist and bandleader as well, this time on the Columbia label. You can listen to the original Bessie Smith recording from the tunelist of her website http://www.redhotjazz.com/bessie.html It is totally amazing to hear Billy Poole singing it again some 37 years later. Same timbre, same feeling, absolutely fantastic! I searched for further recordings of her and all I could find is her LP ?Confessin? the blues? with pianist Junior Mance and guitarist Kenny Burrell on the Riverside label in 1962. Together here with the French High Society Jazz Band of trombonist Mowli Jospin. An amazing band where all the musicians grasp that honest and traditional atmosphere of how these early jazz bands would improvise around the singer?s melody lines. What a treat! The other musicians in the band are Pierre Merlin trumpet, Claude Rabinet trumpet, Pierre Atlan clarinet., Martine Morel piano, Christian Gervais banjo, Raymond Fonseque tuba and Michel Miroux drums. Jospin, Merlin and Rabinet played in the famous Claude Luter Band as well. This was the band that played and recorded with Sidney Bechet in the fifties.

And now ladies and gentlemen, it is my great honor to present you Kenneth Earl "Kenny" Burrell, the earl of jazz guitar, who with his dazzling bebop lines, his low down blues licks and his pristine tone will elevate us all to a state of jazz guitar nirvana. Kenny is superbly accompanied by two greats, Bob Magnusson on bass and the late Sherman Ferguson on drums on Paul Marshal's venerable "Club Date" TV show of the late 80s. Its time for the trio to take Miles Davis' classic blues waltz "All Blues" to the cleaners.
