26/12/2008 : I must have that man ? Erik Berndalen 2008 During a concert at the Golden Washboard Festival in Ilawa Poland Swedish trumpet player Erik Berndalen is featured in a beautiful tune. In my own collection I had this by Billy Holiday with Teddy Wilson and Buck Clayton in 1937. If you type in this title on youtube you?ll find other versions by Abbey Lincoln, Billy Holiday and Adelaide Hall. It is a tune from around 1928 and Adelaide Hall recorded it then with Duke Ellington Other great artists who have done it then as well were Jimmy Noone, Joe Venuti Jack Hylton. It came up again in the late thirties with Benny Goodman and also by Ella Fitzgerald. In this session Erik is backed up by Mikael Cinthio clarinet, Dymitr Markiewicz trombone and in the rhythm group Wojtek Kaminski piano, Wiktor Zydron and Pawel Tarntanus banjos, Kuba Olejnik bass

06/11/2008 : Ella Fitzgerald est l'une des plus importantes chanteuses de jazz. Connue sous le surnom de « The First Lady of Song » (littéralement « La Première Dame de la chanson », mais traduit plus volontiers par « La Grande Dame du Jazz »), elle a remporté de nombreuses récompenses, dont 13 Grammy Awards. Avec une tessiture de voix de trois octaves, elle est remarquable pour la pureté de sa voix et sa capacité d'improvisation, particulièrement en scat. L'une de ses improvisations les plus célèbres est celle qu'elle a faite en concert sur Mack the Knife (extrait de L'Opéra de quat'sous) lors d'un concert à Berlin en 1960, morceau au cours duquel elle a eu un trou de mémoire et qu'elle a poursuivi sans hésitation en alternant scat et paroles improvisées.

29/10/2008 : Ces trois là se connaissent par c?ur et ne cessent pourtant de se surprendre encore. Un trio parfaitement rodé, un bonheur comme on en entend trop peu. Pour référence, Bobby Durham fut le batteur des plus grands, d?Ella Fitzgerald à Oscar Peterson, Pierre Boussaguet, le bassiste de Diana Krall et de Ray Brown, Niels Lan Doky, le pianiste de Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen et de John Scofield.
