Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers feat. Freddie Hubbard - Lester

07:05 images - photos : 30/12/2008 :
Freddie Hubbard, the Grammy-winning jazz musician whose blazing virtuosity influenced a generation of trumpet players and who collaborated with such greats as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, died Monday, a month after suffering a heart attack. He was 70. A towering figure in jazz circles, Hubbard played on hundreds of recordings in a career dating to 1958, the year he arrived in New York from his hometown Indianapolis, where he had studied at the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music and with the Indianapolis Symphony. Soon he had hooked up with such jazz legends as Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and Coltrane and the rest is history. RIP Freddie, you will not be forgotten.

What a Dream Bechet 1938

02:53 images - photos : 05/12/2008 :
What a Dream Sidney Bechet 1938 Sidney Bechet, the first great jazz horn soloist to be featured on records, was a remarkable soprano saxophonist and clarinetist. He dominated ensembles, often taking over the role of a trumpet or cornet, and was such a dazzling soloist that he ended up being the favorite musician of both Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. The posted tune was from 1938, during a recording under his own name. Sidney Bechet and his Orchestra recorded just four tunes. In this session he was joined by Ernie Caceres on baritone sax, Dave Bowman piano, Leonard Ware electric guitar, Ed Robinson string bass and yes, the great Zutty Singleton on drums. It is so good that the tradition of playing this music is maintained by the younger generation. I was very impressed by the performance of Erik Greiffenhagen I saw this morning on youtube. Keep it up, Erik! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6ohxPZzrLg

Miles Davis Tribute - Kind of Blue

The music is me playing over a jazzy sounding backing track that I found on the internet, hope you like. ==== Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 September 28, 1991) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz from World War II to the 1990s: he played on various early bebop records and recorded one of the first cool jazz records; he was partially responsible for the development of modal jazz, and both jazz-funk and jazz fusion arose from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s; and his final album blended jazz and rap. Many leading jazz musicians made their names in Davis's groups, including pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist John Coltrane and guitarist John McLaughlin. As a trumpeter, Davis had a pure, round sound but also an unusual freedom of articulation and pitch. He was known for favoring a low register and relatively sparse playing that served the song rather than display flashy playing, but Davis was also capable of highly complex and technically demanding trumpet work. On March 13, 2006 Davis was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame, Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame, and Down Beat's Jazz Hall of Fame. -Wikipedia ===== Cocoon of Terror: http://tinyurl.com/5w8eej Guitar Player from Hell: http://tinyurl.com/ywhgue Heartless Bastard In Ecstasy: http://www.lulu.com/content/2094901 Red Zen: http://tinyurl.com/2ylpml
