Aero-TV Previews Airshows 2009: ICAS' John Cudahy Looks ...
07/01/2009 : Despite The Economy, The Airshow Industry Seems Optimistic The annual ICAS Airshow Convention is one of our favorite events of the year... both for the pure enjoyment of our fellowship with an amazing group of people, as well as the bell weather research we get from our attendance. Following a fairly safe and positive year, ANN sat down with International Council of AirShows President, John Cudahy to see what the current economic malaise may do to a cost-conscious industry, as well as other pressing aero-issues. The airshow industry often serves as the public's best view of the excitement and potential of the aviation world, so a healthy airshow industry seems critical to the well-being of flyers everywhere. ICAS tells us that Airshows draw large numbers of demographically attractive spectators - a well-educated, affluent group of men, women and children of all ages. More than 70 percent of the audience at an air show has had some college education. Three quarters report household income of $35,000 or more. The average spectator is just under 39 years of age, but more than 53 percent of spectators are between 30 and 50. ICAS notes that Airshows offer a consistently and historically safe environment for millions of spectators each year. Since current rules were implemented nearly 50 years ago, there has not been a single spectator fatality at a North American show – an enviable safety record for any business. But... they're not satisfied to leave it that. A 'small working group' of ICAS members met last year to begin work on a new Safety Management System for the air show industry that will serve as an important tool in improving air show safety. As far as 2008 looked, it seems to have been a good start. Aero-TV's Conversation With ICAS Prez, John Cudahy. Fury on streets against Israel growing
05/01/2009 : million of Turks showed their solidarity with gaza Despite the cold and rainy weather, İstanbulâ??s Ã?aÄ?layan Square yesterday hosted one million people who gathered to display their solidarity with the Palestinian people after the launch of an Israeli offensive in Gaza. Israel says the eight days of aerial bombardment, followed by a ground invasion late on Saturday, seeks to undermine Hamasâ?? ability to fire rockets at the Jewish state. So far, more than 500 Palestinians and four Israelis have been killed. Palestinian and UN officials say at least 100 Palestinian civilians are among the dead. The demonstration at Ã?aÄ?layan Square, titled â??Protest for Solidarity with Palestine,â? was arranged by the Felicity Party (SP). â??Damn Israelâ? was one of the slogans shouted at the demonstration, while many shouted â??Intifada,â? an Arabic word referring to Palestinian uprisings in the past. Protesters carried Turkish and Palestinian flags. Late on Saturday, soon after reports of Israel's ground incursion into Gaza, a group of protesters gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate General in the Levent district of İstanbul. A number of members of Alperen Ocakları, the youth branch of the Grand Unity Party (BBP), carrying Palestinian flags in their hands, tried to enter the consulate building. Some of them were arrested by the police. In a nearby district, a group of protesters closed two lanes of Büyükdere Caddesi to traffic. Shouting "The Palestinian people are not alone!" the group carried posters of Palestinian people who have been killed in the Israeli attacks together with Palestinian flags. In Ankara, a group of demonstrators in a 30-vehicle convoy came in front of the UN mission's building after midnight. The group shouted "Allahu akbar," Arabic for "God is great," while throwing snowballs at the building. The same convoy later headed to the Israeli Embassy, where someone from the group read the Quran aloud. Some of the protesters ...

BBC Black and White Globe 1968
11/12/2008 : This is ( I believe )the last black and white BBC globe ident from 1968. If I am wrong, then the person who did the original version has it wrong, too. I made this version from a complete clip from YouTube, but without the full 'music'. I then found another rather fuzzy version on an upload featuring a 1968 weather report, so I dubbed the full music from that. My fave is STILL the 1967 BBC2 revolving colour ident.
