Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz from World War II to the 1990s: he played on various early bebop records and recorded one of the first cool jazz records; he was partially responsible for the development of modal jazz, and both jazz-funk and jazz fusion arose from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s; and his final album blended jazz and rap. Many leading jazz musicians made their names in Davis's groups, including pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist John Coltrane and guitarist John McLaughlin. As a trumpeter, Davis had a pure, round sound but also an unusual freedom of articulation and pitch. He was known for favoring a low register and relatively sparse playing that served the song rather than display flashy playing, but Davis was also capable of highly complex and technically demanding trumpet work. On March 13, 2006 Davis was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Si on ajoute à la liste Miles Davis, le swinging London, Monk et la scène folk psychédélique d?Albion, la curiosité ne peut qu?être irrésistiblement excitée. Les temps ont changé, le Beat Hôtel est un quatre étoiles et les anciens freaks travaillent pour Microsoft. En écoutant Mr Boyd en face du Regard Moderne, lieu magique et unique au monde, on se dit que le rêve peut continuer si l'on y croit un tant soit peu. George benson
24/10/2008 : George Benson est un guitariste, chanteur, et compositeur de jazz né le 22 mars 1943 à Pittsburgh en Pennsylvanie aux États-Unis.Il enregistre son premier album, The New Boss Guitar, en 1964, à l'âge de 21 ans, accompagné par « Brother » Jack McDuff au clavier, un organiste américain et chef d'orchestre soul.Benson commence en 1965 une carrière solo, avec le George Benson Quartet. Son talent est ensuite remarqué par Miles Davis, qui l'emploie sur l'album Miles in the Sky, sorti en 1967.Sa carrière décolle véritablement dans la seconde moitié des années 1970, dans une veine jazz-funk, avec les albums Breezin (sorti fin 1975, dont le titre This Masquerade remporte le Grammy Award du disque de l'année en 1977) et In Flight (1977), emblématiques du jeu très particulier de Benson à la guitare, qui chante simultanément les notes des solos qu'il improvise, avec un phrasé jazz sur un rythme et des arrangements funk.Le point culminant de sa carrière est l'album Give Me The Night, produit par Quincy Jones (1980), et le morceau éponyme, qui a fait de George Benson une figure désormais incontournable des dancefloors, parfois par samples interposés (Give Me The Night a notamment été samplé, en France, par le groupe IAM pour son tube "Je danse le Mia" et par Jean Dujardin dans son film "Brice de Nice" avec le tube "Donne-moi du Cash !").
