Erroll Garner Trio - Just One Of Those Things
13/11/2008 : On ne compte plus les versions de ce standard ! "Just one of those things", écrit par Cole Porter en 1935 est ici donné par un Erroll Garner dont les doigts sont fulgurants comme des traits d'esprit. Mais avec toujours une mélancolie secrète, et en fin de compte un grand lyrisme.

12/11/2008 : Errol Garner est le premier pianiste de jazz que j'ai aimé, alors que je n'étais pas encore familiarisé avec cette musique (je viens plutôt du classique). J'ai tout de suite été séduit par la vivacité de ses traits, jamais gratuits, et par son sens de la mélodie dans l'improvisation. On notera sur cette video un autre trait de son jeu : son humour ! Et cette façon qu'il a de jouer à l'idiot quand de ses mains sortent des choses géniales. J'ai entendu parfois parler de façon un peu condescendante de Garner, comme d'une musique "facile"... C'est vraiment ne rien comprendre à la création musicale que de confondre le facile avec l'agréable. Qu'on prenne le temps par exemple d'observer sa technique : comme ses mains toujours vont en se contrariant. Et pourtant de ce décalage, de cette "dispute" rythmique, nait un discours d'une admirable clarté.
